Today’s feature has absolutely beautiful tresses! We’re all about fab hair so we asked her to give us the deets on her mane. She has her own blog that you can check out: Confessions of a Natural Gal. Meet Danielle:
Hi All! My name is Danielle. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio. I love Junk food, YouTube, and Shoes lol.
When did you decide to go natural and why?
I did a Big Chop on August 21st 2010. Before I was natural, I had a short, relaxed “Rihanna” styled cut. To maintain this short hairstyle I had to go to the salon every week and a half. *Yes, my hair grows that fast!* It was becoming too much maintenance, and I was tired of spending $40-50 every time I went to the salon to get it done. I then started to grow my hair out, and decided not to get anymore relaxers because of cost and maintenance.
Describe your hair:
I have extremely THICK, coily, curly, kinky, type 4 hair. It shrinks to the heavens when wet. I trick a lot of people when I switch up my styles because of its versatility. I call her “Janice” lol
What’s your hair routine?
I cowash my hair once a week. My hair LOVES water and water based products. I deep condition once a week. I shampoo/ use ACV rinse once a month to remove product buildup. I style my hair for the week after I cowash, usually low manipulation styles. Mini twist’s, buns, or any style where I can tuck my ends away and leave my hair be.
My ultimate goal is to have healthy hair, first and foremost. I’d love to see my hair reach waist length when stretched by the time I reach year 5 in my hair journey.
What is the greatest lesson that you have learned through your natural journey?
Patience is Key. You have to have patience when working with natural hair, because it is not easy, especially when you are first starting out. Don’t give up! So many women who transition give up within the first few months because they feel like they cant do it anymore! Stick with it!
When I first started my natural Journey, YouTube was my best friend. Lol I still go to YouTube when I want to try a new style, or find something different to do with my hair. I love watching Xgoldn, Simplyounique and Naptural85.(Just to name a few)
Some new naturals may be slightly intimidated about rocking and trying new styles. What’s your advice to them?
Rock you hair girlfriend! Never let anyone or anything stop you from doing what you want to do with your hair! As colored women we are so afraid of what the next man, or woman is going to say about our hair, clothes, trends etc. Be You! Experiment, have fun with it!
Any upcoming events or anything else you would like to add:
I started my own blog geared primarily towards natural hair, fashion, and other randomness. www.confessionsofanaturalgal.blogspot.com
Other than that, I am in the process of trying to start an annual natural hair event/forum/gathering for natural hair women in Cleveland. Too many times do I see natural hair events in other cities besides Cleveland! Lol
I am on Instagram @lovelylady23 or I can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
